Estonian Urban Lab is a competence centre of urban thought and action that focuses on improving and diversifying urban life, promoting citizen participation and enhancing sustainable urban development. The urban walks organized by Urban Lab are guided excursions to familiar and unfamiliar places, which bring together local experts and urban enthusiasts to open up the multiple layers of the urban space. In the framework of Kilometre of Sculpture, two urban walks will be organized combining the public space of the small town with the artworks that have invaded it. The
second excursion taking place on the 18th of July will aim to engage the local people and will be in Estonian.
Saturday, 18.0717:00MoKS meetings: Art and provocation, in discussion with Piotr Armianovski
moderated by John Grzinich
39 Jüri Street, in English
MoKS meetings is a series of events that introduces the South Estonia based MoKS guest studio artists to art audiences outside Mooste. The artist to be met this time is artist, activist and film-maker Piotr Armianovski from Ukraine who will discuss about the artists role during large scale social and political shifts. Not only will we hear his stories but also challenge ourselves to consider the implications of artistic action in the face of propaganda, populism and the powers behind broader historical change.

Saturday, 18.0719:00 Liina Siib (EE) – Poetry or Freedom
performance, Kreutzwald monument, Kreutzwald Park
In 1987, the Free-Independent Youth Column No. 1 gathered by the Kreutzwald monument in Kreutzwaldi park in Võru. This well-attended event was an evening of poetry, and people recited the famous national poet`s Koidula’s poems aloud, in an emotional action for Estonian independence.

For the exhibition The Visitors, the Estonian artist Liina Siib will publish an artist book with Koidula’s poems, and stage re-enactments of the evening of poetry at the same location as in 1987. Local people from Võru are asked to once again read Koidula’s poems. Today, in an entirely new context, the readings will most likely create both a sense of déjà vu and a new understanding of Koidula’s writing.
